Basic and Extended Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases
Classic risk factors, such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, lipid profile, poor diet,
alcohol consumption, smoking habits, lack of exercise and stress play an important role in
coronary heart disease. Recent studies however show that besides physiological and
behavioural risk factors, the individual genetic predisposition significantly contributes
to the development of CVD.
Our cardiovascular products analyze the individual genomic constellation with regard to
personal risk factors in connection with CVD: The knowledge of the personal genomic
constellation of a patient helps the physician to select suitable primary preventive
therapeutic measures as well as to plan individual medication in order to avoid or reduce
specific risks to develop CVD.
Classic risk factors for cardiovascular diseases like hypercholesterolemia, hypertension,
and lack of exercise, obesity, smoking and alcohol abuse are common in Western countries.
In Germany for example two thirds of the 18 - 79 year olds have at least one of these risk
factors. Cardiovascular diseases are still the leading cause for death.
Preventive Medicine is best applied before symptoms arise!
The prevention of cardiovascular diseases is therefore essential, particularly because some
risk factors (hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, diabetes and metabolic syndromes) remain
for a long time unnoticed, because symptoms normally don't appear for many years. Preventive
medicine regarding cardiovascular diseases focuses on the personal risk profile: the risk
estimation for coronary diseases has been possible since a couple of years on the basis of
established scores as published in the PROCAM- und Framingham-Study.
These individual risk profiles consider besides traditional risk factors also the familial
medical history. This inherited, genetic aspect of the individual risk for cardiovascular
diseases can be refined by using our cardiovascular system CardioSensor PREMIUM.
Our CardioSensor PREMIUM covers polymorphisms that are associated with the
following cardiovascular risk fields:
ARTERIOSCLEROSIS AND LIPID METABOLISM
HOMEOSTASIS OF BLOOD CLOTTING (THROMBOSIS)
HYPERTENSION
METABOLISM AND OBESITY
